BASKETBALL GAME PLAY

BASIC GAME STRUCTURE

GAME STRUCTURE

An NBA game is divided into four quarters, each quarter is 12 minutes long.

A 15-minute halftime break occurs between the second and third quarters.

Overtime (if necessary):

If the score is tied at the end of regulation, additional overtime periods are played until a winner is determined.

I Overtime consists of five minute periods, and if the score remains tied after the first overtime, additional overtime periods are played until there's a  winner.

3. Shot Clock:

  • Each offensive possession is limited by a shot clock, which is set to 24 seconds. Teams must attempt a field goal within this time frame.

4. Possession and Shot Clock Reset:

  • After an offensive rebound or certain other situations, the shot clock is reset to 14 seconds instead of the full 24 seconds.

6. Team Timeouts:

  • Each team is allowed a limited number of timeouts during the game.

  • Teams can call timeouts to strategize, rest players, or make substitutions.

7. Possession Arrow:

  • In situations where the possession of the ball is unclear, a possession arrow is used to determine which team gets the ball.
